This means that you will have to give full explanations of the reasons why you did not submit your application at the time you wish your claim to be paid from.
You will have to demonstrate good cause throughout the period for which you are requesting backdating. The burden of proving good cause rests with you as the customer, however, the Benefits Service will consider all of the relevant facts in each case.
There are some circumstances where benefit can be awarded from an earlier date.
We will write to you to advise when your benefit can be paid from.
If we decide we cannot backdate your claim we will tell you what further action you can take.
